THE HOTEL: Boutique Hotel Borgo D'Orlando is hidden in the countryside, moments from the beautiful Nebrodi mountains and the beach. The resort is set in an old homestead that hosted a custom and a post station centuries ago. It was recently renovated retaining its original rustic charm. There are a large garden, a stylish swimming pool, and a wellness center. The Borgo has a fabulous standard of service and a delicious restaurant. It is a perfect hideaway for a relaxing family holiday.
THE OWNER: The hotel is owned by the local Giuffre' family. They open the hotel, which is named after the local village, together with four villas and ten cozy holiday apartments. Their dream is to share this still un-touristic and beautiful part of Sicily with curious travelers.
THE ROOMS: The nine rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished with elegant stylish pieces. A number of the rooms have wooden beams ceilings and four-poster beds. Others have their own patio or terrace. Two can be connected to host families. All rooms feature air-conditioning, mini-bar, and Wi-Fi.
THE FOOD: There is an excellent in-house restaurant. Guests can dine romantically under the Sicilian stars. The hotel has a good list of local wines.
THE ICING ON THE CAKE: Capo d'Orlando offers beautiful views over the Aeolian Islands.
LOCATION: Borgo d'Orlando is located a few kilometers from the village Capo d'Orlando in the North-East of Sicily, halfway between the mountains and the sea. The best airport to land is Catania, 2.30 hours away.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO: This is a great base from which to hike in Nebrodi Mountains, relax at the sea and explore the Northern side of Sicily. You are close to beautiful Aeolian islands, just in front, and at one hour from Messina which has one of the most picturesque fish markets in Italy. You are at less than 1 hour to baroque beauty of Cefalu' and Greek villages of Tindari and Milazzo. The trendy chic village of Taormina and the volcano Mount Etna are at 2 hours. Besides swimming, horse riding and cycling you can take a cooking class or do some yoga.
GOOD TO KNOW: It is strongly recommended to rent a car to explore the area. Alternatively, there is a regional train that follows the coast connecting Palermo to Messina.
