THE HOTEL: Casa Isabella is an intimate boutique hotel in an old farmhouse in the beautiful Monferrato countryside. This is a fascinating part of the country that is yet to really open up to tourists. A perfect spot for wine lovers and foodies, you can eat like a king in Piedmont. Some of Italy's best wines are made here. You can tour the vineyards and buy some of the best labels to take home as a souvenir.
In warm weather, you can unwind by the pool and in the colder months in front of a blazing fire.
THE OWNER: Alessandro and Monica, who is an architect, left the rat race of urban living in Turin for an idyllic rural life. Energetic and responsive you will be welcomed like a long lost relative.
THE ROOMS: The couple has 4 bedrooms decorated in neutral colors and furnished in a stylish rustic style that mixes antiques with contemporary items.
THE FOOD: Monica cooks up a storm in the kitchen. She serves typical Piedmontese meals and there is an evening aperitif accompanied by local cured meats and cheeses. Alessandro knows his wines and has a fantastic cellar with some of the best wines from the region: Barolo, Barbaresco, and the sparkling wines that have put Asti on the map.
THE ICING ON THE CAKE: Casa Isabella offers massages and yoga lessons but you need to reserve a session when you book.
LOCATION: The hotel is surrounded by vineyards, moments from the local village Vaglio Serra. You are close to the wine paradise of the Langhe. Nizza Monferrato is 5km away and Asti is 25km.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO: Your hosts know their region like the back of their hands and can help you find hidden Piedmont. Explore by car, on foot or by bike. Seeing the hot springs in Aqui Terme is a must. The couple can also direct you to some excellent local restaurants, vineyards, and small farms.
GOOD TO KNOW: In October and November guests can go on a truffle hunt in the forests. If you find one, Monica will serve it up for supper grated over eggs or pasta.
