Col Alto is a boutique hotel in Corvara, one of the best ski resorts in the Dolomites, close to the famous Sella Ronda ski run. There are literally hundreds of kilometers of slopes for skiers of all levels and you can try a new route everyday. THE HOTEL: The boutique hotel Col Alto is in Corvara, one of Italy's top ski resorts in the Dolomites. It is decorated in an alpine design style with stone floors and wood walls. The hotel has a beautiful lobby with a modern fireplace, a popular lounge bar, a cigar room with elegant Chesterfield armchairs and some comfortable common areas perfect for relaxing in after a day on the slopes. There is a big indoor swimming pool with a sea-salt water Jacuzzi, as well as a wellness center with a Turkish bath and a steam room, which makes this one of the Dolomites top spas.

THE OWNER: Stefano grew up in the Dolomites. He lived in Milan, London, Sydney, and New York before he settled down at home with his bride Lucia. The hotel has been in the family for a long time but the couple has renovated Col Alto to an impeccable standard.

THE ROOMS: The spacious rooms are furnished in a designer chic style that is both warm and cozy. They are located in the main hotel or in the new wing. They are of a variety of standards. The Panorama Suite is 100sqm and has a fireplace and a Jacuzzi on the terrace, as well as a magnificent view of the mountains. The Suites (45sqm) and the Superiors (30sqm) are ideal for families and can all accommodate up to 4 people, while the double rooms (22sqm) are for couples only.

THE FOOD: The excellent restaurant specializes in South Tyrolean dishes prepared in the traditional way or with a clever contemporary twist. The menu offers a selection of the Mediterranean and international dishes. All the ingredients are local. Every week there is a Ladin themed evening. There are vegetarian and gluten-free menus. There's also a selected wine list that includes prestigious labels and local wines. Guests usually book a half board package.

THE ICING ON THE CAKE: The hotel is perfect for children. While the kids are busy in the indoor pool or in the playroom with a mini-cinema and plenty of toys, the adults can enjoy a beauty treatment and a toning massage in the beautiful spa.

LOCATION: The hotel is right in the center of Corvara, moments from the slopes, and the summer hiking trails. Corvara is an hour by car from Bolzano and it is a paradise for ski lovers.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO: Hotel Col Alto is on the renowned Sella Ronda ski run. You can also take a ski tour of the First World War battlefields. Ski to Lagazuoi or Armentarola, one of the most beautiful runs in the Dolomites. The route from Marmolada to Malga Ciapela is a unique experience, not to be missed. You are spoilt for choice as there are hundreds of miles of slopes near to the hotel which is suitable for all levels. You can choose a new route every day! Expert skiers can try the black runs from Corvara. In winter there is snowboarding, sledding and ice-skating as well as skiing. In summer enjoy hiking, mountain biking, horse-riding hand gliding, or relaxing on the golf course.

GOOD TO KNOW: The best time to go skiing is from March until Easter. Late in the season, the slopes are still all open but the days are longer and there are interesting promotional packages! Avoid the Christmas holidays, when there is always a full house and the prices are high!
