THE HOTEL: Relais La Corte dei Papi is an 18th-century manor house that has been turned into an intimate boutique hotel. The hotel is near Cortona in Tuscany. It has beautiful gardens and a swimming pool and is an ideal place for a relaxing holiday, a wedding and a family gathering.

THE OWNER: This was once the home of Davide's grandparents, but with his mother's help he has turned it into first a restaurant and now a hotel. He used only locally sourced materials in the renovation project and has a careful eye for detail.

THE ROOMS: There are 15 charming rooms and suites with their own individual style. They are decorated with Tuscan crafts and fabrics and have a cozy feel to them. They have vaulted or beamed ceilings and each room has a classic Tuscan terracotta floor. Each of the 9 wonderful Spa Suites feature a crystal Turkish bath and multi-sensory showers with aromatherapy, chromotherapy, and music therapy options.

THE FOOD: There are plenty of traditional Tuscan dishes on the menu but each has a contemporary feel. Enjoy homemade pasta, bread, and tasty desserts. The restaurant is elegant and the atmosphere is one of fine dining. It is open to non-residents. Eat under the stars in summer. Breakfast is served in the garden, weather permitting.

THE ICING ON THE CAKE: Massages and wellness treatments can be done in the privacy of the Suite, with treatments tailored to suit guests' needs.

LOCATION: The hotel is in the Tuscan hills, close to the magnificent historic hill town of Cortona. You are close to Lake Trasimeno, on the border with Umbria.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO: Take a cooking class, go wine tasting or take a boat trip on Lake Trasimeno. The area is dotted with historic hilltop towns and villages. The location offers you the best of both Tuscany and northern Umbria. There are many opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, and cycling. To discover the area you need your own transport.
