THE HOTEL: Masseria Cervarolo is a lovely boutique hotel in an old 16th century white stone farmhouse and has a gorgeous garden, with a stunning swimming pool. You are just outside Ostuni in the Itria Valley.
Bursting with character, the hotel oozes atmosphere and is steeped in history. There are 18 magical conical houses known as trulli, that look like they were built by munchkins. There is a wonderful Jacuzzi which was once the farm's rain butt. Guests can relax in the library and the sitting room or take a massage.
THE OWNER: Teo and family hail from nearby Bari, but spent so many holidays in this part of Puglia that they brought themselves a weekend house. Beguiled by the charms of this beautiful house, they decided it was time for a change of lifestyle. After five years of restoration work, they were ready to receive guests in their brand new hotel.
THE ROOMS: The rooms are located in the ancient trulli, which are attached to the main building. Characterful, they have warm and stylish interiors with local furniture and fabrics completing the design.
THE FOOD: In winter breakfast is taken in the cozy breakfast room and outside on the terrace in summer. Snack lunches are available. A candlelight dinner of local dishes is served in the garden and there is both music and traditional dancing. BBQ evenings are often held and there is a wood-burning oven perfect for pizza. Cookery courses are also available.
THE ICING ON THE CAKE: There is an 18th-century church with a stunning baroque altar and beautiful frescoes.
LOCATION: The hotel is in the Itria Valley, just 10 minutes' drive from Ostuni and the coast.
WHAT TO SEE AND DO: The Masseria is an hour's drive from the Castellana caves, beautiful baroque Lecce, and the ancient trulli of Alberobello. The villages of Locorotondo, Martina Franca, and Monopoly are not to be missed.
GOOD TO KNOW: In the summer months guests must stay at least 3 or 7 nights.
