THE HOTEL: Stylish Masseria Montelauro is a boutique hotel just outside Otranto, in Puglia. The ancient white-washed farmhouse has been transformed into an oasis of relaxation. Built with the local Lecce stone, with charming blue shutters, this classy hotel has a sophisticated ambiance.
THE OWNER: Elisabetta moved to Puglia escaping the big city life in Milan with her daughters, Caterina and Mercedes. She built a new career in the warm southern sun and created this chic hotel. She has no regrets and guests now return year in, year out.

THE ROOMS: Simple and chic in the southern Italian style, the 23 bedrooms have wrought-iron beds covered with hand-woven bedspreads and refined white curtains. The majority of the rooms are on the ground floor and have private access to the pretty garden.

THE FOOD: In summer breakfast and lunch are taken in the garden and you can savor the fruits and vegetables from the hotel's cottage garden. A dinner for two in the pergola under the Mediterranean stars is perfect for lovers.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO:  The buzzing seaside town of Gallipoli is an hour by car as is Lecce, known as the 'Florence of the south'. You are 2km from the wonderful beaches that are the big draw of this part of Italy. Bike and boat tours are available in Otranto and Santa Maria di Leuca. Horse riding at sunset in the Alimini natural park is a memorable twist.
