Holidays in Lake Como
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Lake Como offers the most spectacular and memorable views of your holidays. Located in the North of Italy, the lake is a place to relax, to discover the picturesque village and the amazing aristocratic villas of the past. Active travelers will love to try water-skiing, sailing, canoeing, kite-surfing, and of course cycling. Just above Bellagio, at 754m above sea level, is the church of the Madonna del Ghisallo, that is dedicated to cyclists and a pilgrimage spot for anyone on two wheels. There are many grand hotels and only a few boutique hotels and holiday apartments.
Worth to visit Lively Como sits at the southern end of the lake and is one of Europe’s main silk producers. Its beautiful historic center is small and easy to visit. You will find a 14th-century cathedral and many nice shops and cafès. Stroll along the lakeside to the gardens of the two-hundred-year-old neoclassical Villa Olmo or take the cable car to Brunate for more breath-taking views. Just north of Como is Cernobbio where Milanese noble families once summered in luxurious villas. The rich and famous are still drawn by Lake Como’s beauty and, in particular, the sunny western shore. The Strada Regina runs along the waterside passing Moltrasio and its 19th-century villas to Laglio, where movie star George Clooney owns two 18th century palaces. The road continues on to Brienno and Argegno, both of which have splendid views. From Menaggio catch the ferry to Bellagio, the ‘Pearl of Lake Como’ located on a headland where the two branches of the lake meet. Walk in the wonderful gardens of the Villa Serbelloni or take a boat tour. Do not miss the cozy village of Varenna with its pastel-colored houses. Couples will find romantic walks through the gardens of the Villa Monastero, Villa Cipressi, and up to the Castello di Vezio, which offers a stunning view across the lake to Bellagio. To the south of Varenna is Lecco, popular for Alessandro Manzoni’s novel The Betrothed.
