Piedmont is a rich region in the north-west of Italy popular for excellent wine and delicious food. Turin, once the capital of Italy and now the capital of the region, offers elegant streets, some beautiful monuments, and historic cafès. It is home to Fiat, the car giant, and more recently gave birth to the Slow Food Movement. Still un-touristic, the city is the right place where to enjoy an authentic Italian experience.
Worth to visit Visit Turin with the Royal Palaces which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Do not miss the amazing Egyptian museum, second only to the one in El Cairo. Cinema lovers will like the cinema museum which is hosted in the Mole Antonelliana, the symbol of the city. There are fantastic views across to the nearby Alps from its rooftop terrace. Visit the Chapel of the Holy Shroud where you can see a reproduction of the famous Turin Shroud. You can also get in gear at the FIAT car museum in the Lingotto. Enjoy wonderful wine-tasting tours of Barolo and Barbaresco and some excellent walking in Langhe and Monferrato hills. In central Piedmont visit historic Asti, which hosts a popular horse race and the cellars in Canelli, where the sparkling wines are fermented and which are a candidate for Unesco World Heritage Site status. If you are near Biella, shop at the small luxury brands outlet while in Serravalle, near Alessandria, take your time for designer bargains in the huge fashion outlet.
Food and Wine Piedmont is a gastronomic heaven for food and wine lovers with many traditional restaurants for a perfect holiday. Piedmontese menus show a wide selection of recipes based on truffles that are hunted in Autumn.
