Why choose this tour to discover the amazing history
Take a tour with a professional guide in La Murgia Archaeological National Park to discover how the hermits used to live in their caves! Visit some of the beautiful rupestrian churches dotted along the countryside and gain a lot of information in just a couple of hours! The Murgia plateau is dotted with cliffs, waterfalls, mysterious caves, and beautifully painted rock churches some of which date back to the sixth century. Hiking here is truly memorable!
Located on the way to Montescaglioso, just a few kilometers from Puglia, it features unique soft limestone rocks, drawing cliffs, gorges, and caves used since prehistoric times. Established in 1990, the park has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the Sassi.
It hosts many neolithic villages and over 150 frescoed churches that date back to the Middle Age when hermit monks arrived to escape from persecutions.
The park is also amazing for its flora and fauna. It hosts more than 1,200 botanical species and rich wildlife: foxes, hares, porcupines, wild boars, Lanner falcons, and the lesser Kestrel with spread wings, the small raptor which has become the park's symbol.
The private 2h tour to visit the Murgia National Park starts from 180 euro. Please consider that the taxi to reach the park if you do not have your own car (40 euro) is not included.
